Opis
The word "enigma" means "secret" in Greek. Such a secret was the encryption system implemented by the German army before the outbreak of the Second World War. Enigma was a portable device that enabled the encoding and decoding of broadcast messages.
In 1932, a team of three brilliant young mathematicians and cryptologists: Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski broke the Enigma coding system. But the hardest part was yet to come – to make encrypted messages decryptable in a very short time. In 1938, it was possible to create devices called the "crypto bomb" - an electromechanical "computer" capable of automatically breaking codes.
War was approaching. Five weeks before its outbreak, the Cipher Bureau invited representatives of French and British intelligence to a secret facility in Pyry near Warsaw, in the Kabacki Forest. There, the technology of breaking codes was handed over to the allies and one copy of the machine used for this purpose was handed over.
During World War II, the Allies developed this technology at the famous base at Bletchley Park. Breaking the Enigma code is considered one of the most important achievements that enabled the Allies to win the war.
This watch is our tribute to Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski, whose genius changed the face of the world. We also want to use this watch to promote knowledge about the Polish fundamental contribution to breaking the Enigma code.
The Enigma watch is the second watch in our collection with this name. In the new version, the TMI mechanism has been replaced with Miyota.
